Confession
God, forgive me...
When I preach grace (but behave without it)
When I talk incessantly about community (but act alone)
When I cry out for social action (but only with words)
When I seek dialogue (but keep my fingers in my ears)
When I dream big dreams (but do not obey your simplest word)
When I use my ecclesiology as a stick with which to beat your Church
When my doctrine of God is exalted above my God
For theology without theophany

Great writing, A Davies original? I hear an echo of the mighty Sargent at the end, homage. May I use it elsewhere?
Yes, it's mine (except the Sargentism at the end!). Of course you can use it.
Just got a new book of (much more well written) prayers, actually. "Awed to Heaven, Rooted in Earth: prayers of Walter Brueggemann". Highly recommended.
check out dougle's latest blog post - it says similar stuff but in dougle language: www.onedayIwillbedead.blogspot.com
